Who is Beth Karas?

For more than two decades, Beth Karas has offered insight, analysis, and on-the-spot reporting on legal stories across the country. In a 2007 interview, she was called her “one of the best in the business.” Over the years, numerous attorneys and journalists have expressed the same sentiment.

 

Beth is distinguished by her unique expertise and knowledge of law and procedure drawn from experience in the trenches as a trial attorney. Beth is a sought-after analyst, especially when on location at high-profile, competitive stories.

Former NYC Prosecutor and Court TV Correspondent

Beth learned how to navigate the courtroom during eight years as an  Assistant DA in New York City under legendary District Attorney Robert Morgenthau. Beth remains a licensed attorney and is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College and Fordham Law School. Beth was inspired by her time practicing law to use media to educate and enlighten the public about the justice system. 

Beth joined Court TV in the network's third year on the air. During her 19 years as an on-air correspondent at Court TV (later called In Session on truTV), Beth covered many high-profile cases including:

  • Casey Anthony: Florida mother acquitted of murdering her toddler.

  • Jodi Arias: Arizona woman convicted of first degree murder for killing ex-boyfriend.

  • Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter (aka Clark Rockefeller): German national convicted of kidnapping his daughter in Massachusetts (after posing for years as a Rockefeller). Now serving a life sentence for murder in California.

  • Conrad Murray: Doctor convicted of manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson in California.

  • Drew Peterson:  Illinois cop convicted of murdering his third wife.

  • Scott Peterson: California man convicted of murdering his wife Laci and their unborn son Conner.
  • Dharun Ravi: Rutgers University student convicted of bias intimidation and invasion of privacy for spying on roommate with a webcam in New Jersey.

  • O.J. Simpson: Convicted of robbery in Nevada after stealing his own memorabilia from two men in a Las Vegas hotel.

  • Phil Spector: Music producer convicted of murdering actress Lana Clarkson at his Los Angeles County home.
